Snorkeling is very popular and there is access to the sea via steps near the pool, or from the small bay of Cala Padera. You can also fish off the cliffs. There is horse riding 10 minutes walk away. The Menorcan basketball team, ‘Vive Menorca’ play at the new stadium outside Mahon. There are trotting races every sunday by St Luis where there is also an aerodrome if you fancy a flight over the island. Menorca has 120 sandy beaches most of which can be reached within 20 – 30 minutes, some offer the usual water sports, plus at S’algar there are sailing and power boat captaincy courses. There are two tennis clubs and A golf course. The island is steeped in history, within walking distance is the recently re-opened fortification of St Felipe with the remains of a 16th century church and miles of underground tunnels. Slightly further on at Cala St Esteve is Fort Marlborough and the fortification of Queen Isabella.

The community of Tramontana is situated in the residential area of Sol Del Este, so named because it is the most Eastern point of Spain and therefore is the first to see the morning sun. The extensive gardens and pool have beautiful views over Mahon harbour and the historic fortress of La Mola. On the ground floor there is a kitchen with fridge/freezer and electric cooker, this leads into the main living area with wood burning fire, satellite TV, DVD, and CD player/radio. Patio doors open out onto the terrace with a barbeque and those views of the harbour. A spiral staircase leads up to the bedrooms and bathrooms where there is a washing machine, an iron, ironing board and hairdriers are also provided. There is a bar/restaurant and a small supermarket where you can get fresh bread and pastries in the morning 2 minutes walk away, another bar/restaurant with beautiful views over the small bay of Cala Pedera is a 5 minute walk away. There is free wifi access from a bar locally

The historic town of Es Castell is a 10 minute walk away, here there are two supermarkets with butchers, a fishmonger plus bakeries, cafés, bars and restaurants. The picturesque fishing harbour of Calas Fons has numerous bars and restaurants where you can sit by the waterside and watch the boats. There is a regular bus service from Es Castell to the main city of Mahon which takes around 15 minutes, or you could walk along the cliff top path which takes around 40 minutes. Menorca is renowned for it’s beaches, the nearest of these, Punta Prima and Es Grau are about a 15 minute drive away as is the airport.

Menorca villaVilla Saudade has its special charm lying in a simple elegance and the authenticity of the object. Villa Saudade is not one of the typical commercial vacation homes in one of the many tourists’ agglomerations. It lies with its own private pool of approx. 13 x 6 yards in Parc Natural S’Albufera. The garden which is maintained by a gardener seamlessly integrates into the nature. Old, 6-9 m high palm trees define the character of the garden. There are two terraces. One protected porch and one veranda facing the pool with a splendid view over the reserve. At night only a few lights of houses can be seen although the neighbours are only a few yards away on the other side of the property. Care should be taken with young children in view of the wooden balustrade on the terrace overlooking the pool and the drop of 1 m off the far end of the pool.

Villa Saudade lies in ‘Parc Natural S’Albufera’, a UNESCO nature reserve and a former golf course project in the 1960s. After approx. 400 houses were projected in the reserve the local government declared it as a protected area. Our house was one of approx. 35 houses build at the time and since then. The park is not even 10 minutes from pulsing Mahon and 15 min. from nice beaches. At 4 km you find Es Grau, an authentic fisher-village with shopping facilities including fresh fish from local fishermen.

By plane: There are plenty of flights from the UK on Mondays. Alternatively fly through Palma de Mallorca (PMX) or Barcelona (BAR).

San Luis is just 10mins from the airport and a lovely little village that was built by the french. All the best restaurants are here – La Venta – traditional fare , Caraba – a team of chefs from Barcelona- mouth watering food. Anakena – chill out and relax with a unique menu, Villa Madrid – Wonderful pizzeria ,pasta and the best steaks. Sa Pedrera des pujol – a fabulous chef and La Rueda in the high street – for the best Tapas ! Just a 5 min drive and you’ll be at Alcafar, a small safe beach with one of the oldest hotels overlooking the sand. Take a 10 min drive and you arrive at Binibeca beach with it’s fab beach bar. The shops are a strool away and there is a large supermarket 5 mins away by car. (We also have two cots,high chairs,stair gates,and buggys, so, no need to hire )!!!

The Menorca Cricket club is open to all ,and has special kids days where they can learn and play There is also a lovely bar at the club and weekend matches foe all to enjoy. The club is just 10mins drive away. Alovely day out. There is also a sports centre 10 mins away with tennis courts

Binibeca is a lovely unspoilt area in the south-east, predominantly private villas. No high rise hotels. There are shops, cafes and numerous restaurants all within easy walking distance. A beautiful safe sandy beach is 800mtrs away. The capital Mahon is 15 mins by car or bus and the airport about 20 mins.

Notes to those who complain!: Sad tas it is I had a very bad experience last year with a family that complained about everything. As a result please take the folwoing advice about the villa. 1. If you want total privacy where no one could possibly see you. Go to a desert island. 2. Private pool means privet for use of the villa only, it doesnt mean private so no one can hear you in it, see you in or suspect you are in it. 3. There are other villas in the area, I don not know whether they will be occupied at the time you want to go on holiday, their owners dont share that information with me. 4. If they are occupied the people may not speak English, there could be a strong possibility that they may be Spanish. 5. The villa is around 300 yards from the sea. It is not on the sea shore.( I havent actually got my tape out and measured it). 6. What other people do on their land and villas is their business not mine, look for desert islands again!

Still for the complainers: 7.The photos on the site are representation of opinion not fact (for the legally minded). 8.I am not responsible for what birds do around the villa or in the pool (thats what the pool cover is for and the net). 9. Ants like the sun and dead insects. They also inhabit the area.So do lizzards, spiders and other little crteatures. 10.Sometimes it gets hot at night! 11.Unfortunateley you cant lie in bed and see the sea. 12.Suncream caused the pool to go cloudy, thats what the shower is for. 13.
