Arenal d’en Castell is a small town in the Minorca Northern Coast. The town has a long sandy beach (660 m x 25 m) and is built around the sides of the bay overlooking the sea. It mainly consists of vacation villas and apartments with a few larger hotels. Commercially it has four small Spar super markets and a number of bars and restaurants, including an Australian bar, Japi’s, an Irish Pub, and Kane’s Bar.

The apartment and Playas de Fornells: The apartment is on the ‘back row’ of the small community of Tamarindos within the Playas de Fornells development. This means that it is very quiet, and has views across the roofs of the lower flats to the sea. As the flat faces north the balcony remains out of the sun for most of the day, which means it is ideal for eating, meanwhile outside the front door is a total suntrap, so if you don’t feel like going to the beach, you can just park yourself outside and bake quietly in the sun, with a view of the hills behind the apartment. Tamarindos is the most northerly community in Playas de Fornells, so it doesn’t get any ‘through’ traffic, but it is still within walking distance of the supermarkets, bars, and restaurants and even the beach at Tirant, if you want to have a totally laid back holiday and not even hire a car.

The area around Playas de Fornells: Close to Playas de Fornells are some of the most beautiful beaches in Menorca, including the delightful Cala Pregonda. Five minutes by car or a stunning 20 minute walk around the headland is the beautiful fishing village of Fornells, famous for its seafood restaurants and the watersports available in the magnificent bay. 7km away is Es Mercadel, a pretty market town, which has two of the very best restaurants on the island, together with a number of interesting non-tourist shops and art galleries. Es Mercadel is situated at the base of Monte Toro, the highest point on the island, and is famous for its biscuits and pastries. If you want to explore the island further it is worth hiring a car and we are able to organise that for you at very competitive rates.

Menorca: Menorca is a little jewel of an island, smaller and quieter than Mallorca it is an ideal place for a holiday with its numerous beaches, sunshine and fantastic restaurants. But it is more than just a tourist island, with a thriving shoe industry and cheeses that are famous throughout spain. If you are driving along the back lanes, you may come across some of the farms that sell their own cheese, always worth a visit. There is plenty of ancient history to explore and enough small shops in boutiques in the main towns to keep shoppers happy. Menorca, the whole island, has been declared a nature reserve by the EU, and it is well deserved with an interesting variety of flora and fauna, as well as geology and birdlife. For those who like walking and/or cycling it is almost perfect. In the apartment there are a number of guidebooks together with specific walking maps and guides.

The cliffs that surround the bay are very picturesque and afford those with accommodation at the back of the resort spectacular views. Fornells: A 5 minute drive away is the picturesque fishing village of Fornells. Famous for food (seafood in particular), Fornells provides an excellent selection of restaurants and bars, non-tourist shops, a market, banks and even a children playground which has swings, a slide etc. The King of Spain is said to eat here when holidaying on Menorca. The nearest golf course at Son Parc is just 10 minutes drive.

Mahon: A 20 minute drive away is Mahon, the capital of Menorca since 1721. It has strategic importance being one of the largest natural harbours in the world. The port itself is relaxing by day and buzzing by night, with many bars and restaurants. With narrow streets, pleasant shady squares with welcoming pavement cafes and shopping that ranges from the twice weekly market to the expensive designer boutiques, Mahon is a must on every visit to Menorca. As too is Ciutadella the former capital which is an historical magical port.

The apartment is unique in the resort as it benefits from two balconies (both with sea views) and also you access the apartment at ground level, but it is elevated inside, as our neighbour is built into the rock below. As a result the entry provides easy access with children and the elderly alike, but as you are at first floor level once inside, it provides privacy, stunning views, and it is safer, as the children cannot just run down the garden to the pool from the back of the apartment.

A booking deposit of £150.00 per week booked is required with your written booking to cover any breakages / excessive cleaning. The full balance of the villa price is due for payment 6 weeks before your holiday start
* The villa will be available for occupation from 2 pm on each Friday and check out on day of departure is 10 am on Friday.

We can arrange for the hire of cots and high chairs if required.

The charge per week for a cot is £22 per week.
The charge per week for a high chair is £15 per week.

We can also arrange for food starter packs to be left in villa at the commencement of your holiday to include basics such as bread, butter, fruit juice, milk, etc.

Water Parks: Water Parks Aqua Park in Cala Forcat – a small water park ideal for younger children with a restaurant and a bouncy castle play area. The park can be found on the main road going into Cala Forcat – near to Hotel Los Delphines. Aqua Rock Cala Bosc – is a larger water park than Calan Forcat. This park includes four big slides, including the Black hole and the Kamikaze, one large pool with both walk-in and jump in areas, one small pool with smaller slides for the young ones and a pool with a wave machine.

Golf: The Son Parc golf course is located within walking distance of the villa. The course offers 18 holes. There is a driving range, club house and shop and the following may be hired, clubs, buggies, electric and pull trolleys. The club also offers golf lessons. * Both bathrooms have good quality porcelain and mirrors with spot lights over. The main bathroom also has a washing machine and tumble drier. This has a bath with shower over, a bidet, sink and toilet. It is very spacious and the shower room is a good size. White suites and shower curtains. Towel holders and back of door hooks for clothes. Terracotta tiles and fully tiled bathrooms.

* The apartment sleeps six in three bedrooms, a double, a twin and a smaller twin. All bedrooms have very large builit in wardrobes with drawer units inside. Each bed has a cover and is made up with sheets and a pillow. Bath towels and hand towels are provided. All rooms have a large fan and English curtains as well as Spanish shutters. Terracota tiles throughout.

Notes: A recently updated kitchen provides a built-in hob and oven (electric) plus fridge-freezer. Good run of granite surfaces many built-in cupboards plus an electric kettle and toaster. An iron and ironing board, plenty of cooking utensils and cleaning materials as well as ample cutlery, china and glassware are provided. There is a shady balcony with a table & six chairs, two of which recline for the afternoon siesta. The balcony overlooks the bay and has stunning views. At the front of the apartment is a sunny area with two sun loungers. Nearby stunning Japanese gardens abound. There is a small shop and bar across the road and up a path. Supermarkets, bars, restaurants and swimming pools are a few minutes walk. The beach is immediately below and suitable for swimming and snorkelling. The full sandy beach is a five minute walk and provides warm calm water, easy proximity to the hotel for drinks and snacks. There is a regular bus service and taxis are easily ordered. An ideal spot!

LOCAL ASSISTANCE: Saran Propiedades are our local managing agent. Their office is located across the road and to the left of the apartment, as you leave the front door, at Local No 7, Tramontana I (at the end of the colonnade across the road). The office is usually open on Monday – Friday from 10.00 to 13.00 and in the post-siesta period and on Saturdays in high season – check opening times on door of office where details of an emergency out-of-hours contact number will also be found. Messages for you can be left with them – there is no phone in the apartment, but there is a public call box about 100 yards from the front door to the right as you leave. Saran will assist with any problems you may encounter and also have a key to the apartment in case of emergency.

AT THE APARTMENT: There are two locks to negotiate. The Chubb lock and the Yale style one. Both should be used if you are going out. Although a safe and friendly island, summer visits from thieves have been known. Behind the front door are the electric mains switches. Throw the mains switch for everything to come on, but individual switches are labelled in case of difficulty. If the fridge does not come on, check the socket switch behind it. The cleaners should have moved the balcony furniture out onto the balcony, and the sun loungers out to the front patio (loungers marked K4). Please bring in covers to save from damp and sudden winds. Feel free to use up any food/drinks etc left behind by previous occupants and any sun creams, shampoos etc in main bathroom. I f any are time-expired goods, please throw these out. If any basics run out during your stay (e.g. sugar, salt etc) please ensure a replacement supply. Take care to clean up after every meal/snack ants are constantly on watch.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Water is not drinkable – it’s OK for cleaning your teeth or washing salad, but buy bottled for drinking (hot or cold) and ice cubes. Whilst there will be sufficient hot water for your needs, please schedule use of the showers to avoid too much demand within a short space of time. If the flow of water from the taps is low, unscrew the filter on the end of the spout and remove the inevitable grit which accumulates therein. This should solve the problem. In each bedroom, is a plug adaptor suitable for the insertion of “tablets” to kill off any overnight mosquitoes. The tablets should be found under the sink in the kitchen – Baygon or Bloom brands effective and recommend their use nightly in occupied bedrooms. Please remove the plug when you arise in the morning, to prevent overheating, (as this causes burning of the paintwork and sockets) and ensure there are some “tablets” left for anyone arriving after your departure. Do not leave windows open as this encourages flying visitors.

Golf: Son Park is a 9 hole golf course and is approximately 10 mins drive.
