The three master bedrooms to the front of the house have a long balcony. On the ground floor there is a large kitchen/dinner with gas range, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and large fridge/freezer. However, you may not choose to eat in the kitchen as you have a choice of two other dining areas. One inside and the other outside under the wonderful arched terrace. There is a large sitting room with two sitting areas; one for the tv and video and the other for relaxing and reading. Outside there are several terrace areas for relaxing and a large child proof terrace with swimming pool and loungers. The old barn by the pool has been converted into a games room area with table tennis. Tennis can also be played on the private court next to the house.

We have owned our magnificent Menorcan home since 1994 and have spent a lot of love, time, effort and money on bringing this lovely C18th century farm house into the present millennium without losing its essential charm. It is a wonderful place to relax or entertain with lots of space for everyone to have their own space and yet be part of the whole. It is a single storey building with each bedroom opening through patio doors onto terraces and views giving everyone a feeling of privacy and peace. We love it. We hope you will too.

Our farmhouse is equidistant between attractions and facilities of Mahon, the capital of Menorca, and Es Grau, a delightful, authentic,’underdeveloped’ small fishing village. Here you find a long safe sandy beach fringing a very shallow water bay, ideal for small children or anyone who wants to try their hand at windsurfing or dinghy sailing. Equipment for these sports can be hired off the beach in summer. Es Grau also has small bars and restaurants and a friendly supermarket. By contrast the magnificent natural harbour of Mahon, steeped in history boasts spectacular architecture, has numerous excellent restaurants and bars along the waterfront and a lovely quality shopping centre. Numerous accessible supermarkets are located on the fringes of the town where parking is easy. Yacht charters,boat hire and sea trips can be booked from here. Around the farmhouse our area is totally protected and is a haven for birds. There is a good walk down to the coast and along to Cala Mesquida.

A good selection of shops and restaurants are just 400m away from the villa. The accommodation is on two floors. An external staircase leads up from the gardens to a superb “L” shaped sun lounge. From here, double doors lead to a living room with. The kitchen is adjacent to the living room. There are also two twin bedrooms, a double bedroom and a single bedroom on this level sharing two bathrooms. The ground floor is accessed from a separate door to a hallway. Binibeca is made up of two separate areas; Binibeca Vell, which was designed by the famous Catalan architect, Antonio Sintes, in the 70’s to look like a genuine old Mediterranean fishing village with a maze of narrow alleys, Moorish arches, whitewashed houses with sun-soaked patios, and a little harbour. It’s a quaint, quiet and laid-back place with restaurants, bars, shops and squash courts. In contrast, Binibeca Nou has a gorgeous, sandy beach with sufficient space for sunbathing. It is 130m in length and 180m wide having fine golden sand and still waters, making it ideal for children. Low mountain vegetation surrounds the area and it is well sheltered from the sea by a large jutting rock and sand dunes to the rear.There is a beach bar and restaurant as well as sun beds with parasols for a relaxing day by the sea. If you something more active, then snorkelling is popular along the this coast and there is a diving centre nearby.

Binibeca Vell is a quiet area near the beach at Binibeca.The beach bar/restaurant here is well known for it´s good quality meals and is set on the rocks over looking the sea and the beach. There are several bus stops in the area but a car is still a good idea for exploring. There are little resort supermarkets nearby for newspapers and bits & bobs but it is better value to shop at one of the big superstores (the nearest one is on the main road between Sant Lluis and Mahón).Also on this road is the Hippodrome where Trotting races take place each weekend. Sant Lluis is the nearest town and it has some nice restaurants (La Rueda for traditional ‘tapas’ and ‘menu del dia’) and bars.There is a Tabacconist (you buy stamps here too), banks,shops, butcher with local products, nice veg shop and bakery. Also the Municipal Sports Centre & Medical Centre. The nearest site for visiting prehistoric ruins is Binissafuet where there is a traditional Taula. There are several nice walks in the area.

Alcaufar is a small, quiet and attractive fishing village built on one side of a rocky inlet culminating in a sandy beach. It is popular as a weekend and summer holiday retreat for the local population and is not considered to be a busy ‘tourist resort’. The village has a shop, a small hotel/restaurant, another excellent restaurant and also a very good ‘tapas’ bar. The resort of S’Algar is five minutes drive or short walk away and offers a choice of many good restaurants, bars, evening entertainment and a full selection of watersports. In the other direction, Punta Prima, with its beautiful sandy beach and a selection of restaurants is only a ten minute drive away or a twenty minute walk along the coastal path.

Villa terraces and garden : The villa has a large covered dining terrace overlooking the gardens and pool, with a bar fridge and seating for 18, leading to open sun terrace. The garden has extensive terraces surrounding a large piano shaped pool and barbecue area with sun loungers, large sunshades and an outside shower. There’s also a fully enclosed hard tennis court with tennis racquet’s supplied. For those wishing to swim in the sea the sandy beach of Alcaufar offers safe bathing with adjacent rocks for snorkeling and is just a few minutes walk away. There are also excellent walks in the vicinity.

Travel: Menorca Airport is 20 minutes drive from Alcaufar. Although not essential, we recommend the hiring of a car in order to properly explore this lovely island. There is a regular bus service from Alcaufar to the capital, Mahon, which then connects to the very efficient island bus network and airport bus service. Should you wish to be collected from the airport our optional extras offer this facility.

Menorca: The Island of Menorca is quiet, unspoilt and the least commercialised of the Balearic Islands, yet it still has every modern facility and is ideal for a real ‘get away from it all’ family holiday. Measuring only 35 by 9 miles, the island has numerous sandy beaches, coves, small bays and attractive fishing harbours around its rocky indented coastline, while the interior boasts several charming small towns and villages. There are several excellent bird watching regions, and the countryside offers numerous delightful walks, many of which include fascinating prehistoric sites and other places of historical interest. The capital, Mahon, is situated at the head of a magnificent harbour that some two hundred years ago was ‘home’ to the British Fleet under the command of Lord Nelson. The influence of the British, who ruled the island for a total of 70 years, can be seen in the Geogian architecture, in the language, many folk customs and in the locally manufactured gin!

Outdoors

Outside, double doors from the lounge lead to a covered terrace. Steps and a ramp leading to the spacious sun terraces that surrounds the large 9m x 4.5m swimming pool. Roman steps at the shallow end allow easy access for children, the elderly and disabled. Sun beds and parasols are provided along with patio furniture and a brick built BBQ to enjoy ‘Alfresco’ dining. There is off road in the driveway and lovely distant sea views from the patio and gardens.

The villa sleeps 6 comfortably in one double (with ensuite bathroom) and two twins (with a second shared bathroom -there is also a separate wc and poolside shower). The pool terrace also has aBBQ and an outdoor dining area for alfresco eating and BBQ’s . Steps down to the sea take you to directly onto a the jetty from which to fish or swim and from where boats can be rented from Jose, the local chandler (certificate required). The local shops and restaurants are just 500m away and there are two beautiful beaches (Arenal and Macaret) less than 5 mins away by car. Parking is free beside the villa.

Boat hire: Right below Casablanca there is a jetty. Here you can hire and keep a boat, (you need a boating license) and use this to explore the local beaches, some of which are only accessible by boat, and the snorkelling areas.
