Mahón Habour: The entrance to Menorca by the port of Mahon, is one of most incredible in the Mediterranean, due to its geographical characteristics, uniqueness and beauty. In the center of the port, there are two islands: the Island of the King, with constructions from the XVIII century, which until several decades ago were still being used as a military hospital and the Island of the Llatzaret or the Quarentine, with a sanitary institution, which was constructed in 1793. To the south of the mouth, are the remains of the Fort of Sant Felip, built for defense against the Turks. Activity in this port is nonstop, and in addition, it is surrounded by places like the constructions of s’Altra Banda, that add to the curiosity of those arriving. The transit of passengers on regular lines, tourist cruises, cargo boats and recreational vessels contributes to the almost continuous movement, 24 hours a day. But yes, with tranquility.
Archaeological Visits : The island’s talayotic settlers are the most important of Europe. The creators of these mysterious works seem to be giants if one bears in mind the size of the stones used in their different buildings. We can travel back, along the mysterious paths totally integrated in the natural surroundings, thousands of years while observing the splendour and size of the ‘taules’. These monuments, which where supposed to be sanctuaries during the period they were built, are formed by two large rock slabs resembling a T and receive their name from ‘table’ (‘taula’ in the Minorcan dialect). The tallest is the one at Trepucó measuring 4,20 metres. Continuing with our prehistoric trip we encounter the navetas, pointing out the Naveta des Tudons; one of the oldest monuments in Europe; a burial naveta resembling a vessel up side down. Other constructions sure to captivate us are the talaiots : great piles of stones that emerge from hills and plains.
Golf: Golf Son Parc is a championship quality course, ideal for beginners and experienced golfers alike. The course is both challenging and picturesque. It is located just a few hundred metres from the award winning Son Parc beach on the north coast of Menorca . Around the course are wooded hills and a protected wet zone with a rich variety of bird life. In the distance are views of Monte Toro, Menorca ’s highest point. We are taking great care that we develop the course sympathetically with the environment by leaving natural features such as rocks and planting with native flora. We are also happy to say that all our irrigation requirements are met from rainwater and from treated water – we do not take a single drop of fresh water (either from the mains or from wells) for the course. And we still have that very special feature of Golf Son Parc Menorca – a flock of peacocks who live just behind the third green. They are always happy to share their home with golf and we hope they add an extra touch of colour to your round. The original 9 hole course was extended to 14 in 2003 and work on the last four holes to complete the 18 began in 2005. Major construction work was completed in Spring 2006 and, following a final period of growning and bringing the turf up to the required standard, the full 18 hole course was officially opened on 12th August 2006. All the extensions have been designed by Dave Thomas Golf Ltd.
